It’s that time of year when everyone is reflecting on the past 12 months, and thinking of ways to improve in 2025. Common resolutions include getting more active, being more outgoing, or perhaps saving more money, but let’s look at five New Year’s resolutions for marketing professionals, to help improve your workflow in 2025!
Focus on data-driven marketing
This may seem obvious, and the majority of marketers already stand by data-driven marketing efforts, however, we can all be guilty at times of getting caught up in monitoring vanity metrics.
In 2025, really focus on measuring what matters. Prioritise metrics that closely align with your business objectives and goals for the year, like conversion rates and customer acquisition costs, rather than obsessing over the number of likes and followers you have on social media. Many vanity metrics are still good to track and can form the foundation of future optimisation attempts that, in turn, will benefit your main metrics, but it’s important not to base your success on vanity metrics alone.
Strengthen your content marketing efforts
Content is king in the marketing world. Whether you’re crafting clever ad copy, optimised website content, valuable blog posts, or engaging social media content, the power of a good piece of content will always be vital.
In 2025, put plans in place to create more meaningful, valuable content that truly resonates with your audience. Think thought leadership pieces, evergreen content, short-form videos, or even interactive tools like quizzes. No matter what industry you operate in, spending more time and effort on your content marketing strategy will undoubtedly boost your performance over the next 12 months.
Leverage AI without sacrificing the human touch
AI is an increasingly powerful tool, and there are plenty of AI platforms designed to assist marketers with day-to-day tasks. The difficulty here is making sure you don’t lose the human touch and authenticity of your brand.
In 2025, don’t shy away from AI, but focus on utilising AI platforms in an assistive way. Don’t use AI to churn out written content, and I’d also encourage you to stay away from AI-generated visuals since the technology isn’t quite there yet, and plenty of consumers can spot it from a mile away! Instead, use AI to generate creative ideas, predict trends, and suggest optimisation opportunities for campaigns. It’ll be a year of experimentation, but hopefully one with fruitful results.
Invest in upskilling
You could have been in marketing for five, or 25 years, but there’s always something to learn. What platforms could you do with some extra training on? Would you benefit from a creative writing course? Is there an area of the marketing world that you just haven’t tapped into throughout your career? You might even be interested in a professional development course, such as improving your management or collaboration skills.
In 2025, dedicate time to professional development. It’s an investment that always pays off.
Build stronger relationships
Creating strong, authentic connections with your audience, team, and other professionals you work alongside, like journalists and designers, is vital in this industry. Building a strong relationship with your audience may seem obvious, but many brands fail to put as much time and effort into this as they should. The same goes for internal and professional relationships – building a strong foundation is the best way to produce strong results!
In 2025, make a conscious effort to nurture your existing relationships and build new ones. Foster transparency in your campaigns, engage with your audience, encourage collaboration within your team, and focus on providing value to those you work alongside.
There you have it: five New Year’s resolutions for marketers! Even if you aren’t interested in implementing professional resolutions for 2025, I hope this has given you some food for thought. Remember, you could always enlist the help of a friendly agency to support your 2025 marketing efforts!
