To say that video is big would be an massive understatement, not to mention a little obvious.
However, the rate at which video content is dominating the web never fails to amaze us. In an effort to visualise the outstanding growth of video over the past five years, U.S. video hosting company Wistia, have created a rather nice infographic.
The infographic shows that since 2006 the number of internet users (U.S. only) visiting video sites has risen from 33% to 71% and that on a ‘typical day’, 28% of users will visit a video sharing site – a figure 20% higher than back in 2006.
As well as illustrating habitual data, the content also delves a little deeper in to some demographic statistics.
Not surprisingly, the age group consuming the most amount of video is the 18-29 year olds, with 92% of the age group visiting video sharing sites.
The lowest consumers of video are those aged 65+, again, no real shock there, but that isn’t to say they’re not getting involved because according to the data approximately a third of the 65+ age group (silver surfers, if you like) are visit video sharing sites.
Other demographic data such as gender, education and income appear to have little impact on the amount of time people spend on video sharing sites – perhaps a sign that video is the ultimate online equaliser.
