Before you get too excited, Twitter has not launched the much hyped ‘Twitter analytics’ – the company has launched an analytics service that allows you to see how much traffic your website receives from Twitter, rather than how much traffic your Twitter page receives. But still cool though, right?
The service, that was announced at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference yesterday, will provide helpful information to those who use Twitter for regular content distribution and especially valuable for publishers who use the ‘tweet’ button on their site.
The tool is intended to give publishers more detailed information of the effectiveness of their Twitter activity – what and how is their content being shared? how much traffic is Twitter sending to their site? how are embedded tweet buttons performing? are all questions any Twitter user would like to know the answer to.
Here’s a screen shot of the tool in action:

The tool is free and currently available in limited beta with full access expected to roll out in the coming weeks. Developers will also be pleased to hear an API will be released in the near future.
As Twitter users ourselves and recent adopters of the tweet button, we will definitely be giving Twitter Web Analytics a trial, but how much more value this can offer than Google Analytics is yet to be seen, watch this space.
