Five things worth sharing from the last week or so, brought to you by a different member of the Browser Media team every Friday.
This week’s My Five is by Victoria.
1. David Shrigley mascot design FTW
This week, the new Partick Thistle Football Club mascot named Kingsley was unveiled.
Designed by one of my favourite artists, David Shrigley, the fine people of the internet expressed many different views on the new mascot – but a good deal of them seem to be genuinely terrified.
David said:
“As a Jags man it’s an honour to be involved with the club in this way. I can’t wait to see my design on the front of the shirts and around Firhill and just hope the fans like what we’re trying to do.”
Here is Kingsley:
And here is some more wonderful art from David Shrigley, because let’s be honest, when else am I going to get to sneak these into a blog post?
2. Taylor Swift makes Apple crumble
Yeah, I did that gag too. Old Swifty has been chucking her weight around again, this time telling Apple:
“Oi, not paying musicians for music what they done for three months is well out of order”.*
And then Apple cried and said:
“OK Swifty, we will pay everyone all the monies. Even the rubbish ones”.**
*May not have been exact words she said
**May not be official Apple response
3. Obama says the n-word
Twitter went into meltdown this week (with most people totally missing the point Obama was trying to make) after he dropped the n-bomb during a radio interview about US race relations.
President Obama said:
“Racism, we are not cured of it. And it’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say nigger in public.”
See some of the Tweets right here.
4. Tidal waves goodbye to second CEO
See what I did there?
Even with the backing of mega pop star people including Jay-Z, Madonna and Kanye West, Tidal can’t seem to keep hold of CEO’s for very long, with this being the second CEO to leave the company in the last 3 months.
Effectively, Tidal costs the same as a Spotify monthly premium subscription (or double for ‘high-quality sound’, whatever that means), and Jay-Z says that the service is designed to benefit the artists, so it’s kinda difficult to pinpoint exactly why it doesn’t appear to be as popular.
5. Office Roleplay gets ruined
If you don’t work in an office already, fear not! You can join the ‘Generic Office Roleplay’ group on Facebook instead.
Set up by an Aussie teen as a joke between friends, the group quickly became ruined as more people joined, which is a shame, as some of these posts were genuinely pretty funny.
See the CEO of Stackwell and Co. respond to unfunny adults that ruined the group here, or join in (if you are ACTUALLY funny) here.
