Five things worth sharing from the last week or so, brought to you by a different member of the Browser Media team every Friday.
This week’s My Five is by Joe.
1) All change at Google
We learnt about the restructuring operation at Google a couple of weeks ago but this week heralded the launch of a new Google logo.
Deemed to represent how Google touches our lives in multiple ways (not just whilst sitting at a PC), I really like the animated version. Have a look at http://googleblog.blogspot.
Of course, most people don’t like change and there have been some inevitable moans but the following video is a very good reminder of just how much Google has changed over the past 17 years:
2) Into the den
I wrote a review of the first episode of the new Dragons’ Den series a few weeks ago. Over the years, I have known some of the faces that have graced our screens and this week saw another friend, and ex search industry good guy, John Readman from Ride25 pit himself against the dragons.
Although he wasn’t successful in securing funding, I thought that John did well and suspected that a lot of the pitch / discussion had been cut. You have to remember that it is a TV show, created primarily for entertainment, and is always heavily edited.
It was really interesting to see John’s summary of his experience at https://www.ride25.com/cycling-blog/dragons-den-ride25-pitch-unedited/ and read the full pitch. You can watch the pitch there too if you haven’t seen it.
There have been a few other summaries, which bring the experience to life and give an insight behind the scenes. Two of the better ones can be found here and here.
As John says, “no cigar” but I am sure that the brand will have enjoyed some excellent exposure and you have to give anyone who has the balls to go on the show credit. Even the ones dressed in lycra…
3) Funniest product reviews
Product reviews are important and they can, on occasions, make or break the success of a product as we are all affected by the opinion of others.
Amazon published a great summary this week of some of the funnier product reviews that they have received.
Well worth a read at http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/
4) My next toy?
I am a plane geek. Actually, anything that can fly gets my attention and I have enjoyed flying a variety of flying machines over the years, so I was very excited to come across this video this week:
Whilst I admit that it sounds like a swarm of very angry wasps and is a recipe for disaster (see 2:20 for amusing reaction of the videographer to a bit of altitude), I love it and want one!
5) Eric the parrot
There is a video of Eric the parrot doing the rounds this week where he is extremely rude to a dog (he spits at him and calls him words that are far too rude for our erudite readers!).
It got me searching for more Eric videos as I have a bit of a soft spot for talking birds (search YouTube for Kaleo the mynah bird or just watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMEccNLXcQc).
Yes, Eric is a bit of a yob and yes he swears too much, but you have to admire his swagger:

Have a great weekend!
