Little over over two months ago the Android Market surpassed 100,000 apps, and now according to AndroLib, the store has broken the 200,000 app benchmark. (Please not that this information is “estimated”)
Google’s Android app store took almost two years to reach 100,000 apps, but just 63 days to double that number. Much of this growth can be attributed to the Android Market expanding it’s offering to over 20 countries.

While Android basks in the glory of becoming the top selling mobile operating system (beating iOS and BlackBerry) it still has some way to go before it comes close to providing the level of app variety that Apple’s App Store currently has – upwards of 300,000.
Android has proven itself as a very popular mobile OS. More than 2.5 billion Android apps have been downloaded since its opening in October 2008 and a recent readers poll by Mashable, revealed that Android devices were the ‘most wanted’, beating second place iOS devices (iPhones) by 41.2% to 30.6%.
It’s been a great year for Android, no wonder that little green robot looks so happy!
