2005 IAB/ PwC online adspend figures show incredible growth for online advertising, which grew to £1.4 billion.

The results of the bi-annual study by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the World Advertising Research Centre (WARC) have been released and show a massive 65.6% year on year growth in UK online advertising expenditure.

A record breaking total of nearly £1.4billion grew internet advertising’s market share to 7.8%, a growth which boosted the overall media market, despite a fall of almost £200 million from all other advertising media combined, to give an overall growth of 2.5%.

Of all the online advertising formats, search recorded the largest annual increase of 78.8% to reach a total of £768.4 million.

There can be no doubt that search is now a key part of any marketing mix and companies of all sizes must ensure that they have developed a search marketing strategy if they are to survive in an increasingly competitve environment.
