1. #customerservice

The vast majority of us wouldn’t think twice about bad mouthing a brand on Twitter should they do something to upset us; It’s a great place to vent rage, voice your opinion and arguably the most efficient channel for resolving issues. For brands on Twitter, there is no hiding.

So as more consumers take to Twitter to seek support, it’s only natural that brands should invest more in customer service on the network.

A recent study by Simply Measured showed that 30% of the Interbrand Top 100 Brands now have dedicated customer service handles to deal with customer issues via Twitter.

30% seems surprisingly low to me, but as consumers grow ever wiser to the power of social, brands will have little choice but to take social customer service seriously.

3. Infographiczzzzz

A post on Econsultancy yesterday raised an interesting discussion about infographics, and how they’re perceived within the SEO community.

It’s safe to say that the infographic as a medium has been milked to within an inch of its life over the past few years, but should that deter marketers from creating them? In my opinion, no.

Like any other marketing ‘tactic’, there are both a good and bad ways of doing things, and unfortunately it’s those churning out the bad stuff who tend to ruin the fun for everyone else.

So the answer is simple: don’t waste your time creating content which will invariably end up on the scrap pile: generate ideas that people will love, and if the best way of delivering that idea is through an infographic then so be it. Infographics are not dead, we as an industry have just forgotten how to use them properly.

4. Facebook set for yet another makeover

Zuckerberg and his army yesterday announced the imminent arrival of Facebook’s new advertising channel, sorry, ‘news feed’. According to Facebook, this new version of the site is designed to “reduce clutter and focus more on stories from the people you care about”.

Stories will be more vibrant, images & videos larger and content shared via third party networks will be given more prominence. The list goes on.

But arguably the most significant new feature is the ability to toggle between multiple news feeds. This will allow users to filter content by their interests, such as friends, music, photos or pages. More on that here.

Facebook will be rolling out these changes over the coming weeks, but if you can’t wait that long head over to to join the waiting list.

5. SXSW envy

Wish you were at SXSW? Me too. But Texas is a very far away and flights aren’t cheap. Sigh.
