SEO is considered by many as a dark art, performed in secret by magicians who live in caves.
This is of course not true (not in all cases). SEO is not magic and there should be absolutely no secrets attached.
SEO relies on a number of fundamental factors, that together go some way to determine a page’s ranking in search engine results.
The key principles of SEO are actually very black & white and can be broken down in to two key areas – on-page and off-page.
To help illustrate the key factors in both on-page and off-page SEO, the good people at Search Engine Land have created an infographic which outlines the principles excellently.
Search guru and head of Search Engine Land – Danny Sullivan – explained, “search engine optimization — is one of the most important marketing activities available to companies and publishers, but it’s too often considered some murky “dark art” or a sinful practice that should be avoided. It’s not. To help clear away some of the mystery and fear for those new to SEO, and provide a “reset” for those who are experienced, we’ve created “The Periodic Table Of SEO Ranking Factors.”

Too often publishers churn out infographics with little thought for content. No here. This is a great resource that will help a lot of people and hopefully go some way to dispelling a few of those SEO myths.
