My Five #121

Five things that interested me this week; adwords call-only ads, reddit charity donations, the Oscars, Madonna’s fall, Domino’s app

You are reading: My Five #121

Five things worth sharing from the last week or so, brought to you by a different member of the Browser Media team every Friday.

This week’s My Five is by Ashleigh.

1. AdWords launches call-only campaigns

Google has just released a new style of campaign, designed for businesses that value phone calls above website clicks.

Call-only ads will only appear on mobile devices that can make phone calls, which means that when an ad is clicked the advertiser only pays for potential phone calls to their business.

2. Reddit to donate 10% of its 2014 ad revenue to charity

This week Reddit has been asking its members to vote for a charity to donate 10% of its advertising revenue earned in 2014, to.

The 10 charities the community votes for will be given a very generous $82,765.95 each.

The winners have now been announced on the Reddit Twitter account:

3. The Oscars happened…

This week saw the 87th Academy Awards take place in Los Angeles. The big winner was Birdman winning; best picture, best director, best original screenplay and best cinematography. For a full run down of the winners visit:

There was a lot of talk around the event, not just about the winners and nominees. The host Neil Patrick Harris got a grilling and was labelled as “one of the most forgettable for years”. His most memorable section (and not for the right reasons) was the part that he presented in his Y-fronts!

Politics were a big part of this year’s awards with the opening line – “tonight we honour Hollywood’s best and whitest – sorry, brightest” – referencing the #OscarsSoWhite Twitter debate that followed the nominations. There was a lot of controversy over the number of acting nominees that were white – a total of 20.

4. The Brits also happened… and Madonna fell on stage

The Brits also occurred this week and the big talking point was that dramatic fall by Madonna, when the cloak she was wearing got pulled and she went tumbling backwards down some stairs on stage:

5. New rumble-ometer app from Domino’s

Did you know that the rumbles from your stomach when you are hungry are actually saying something, telling you exactly what your tummy wants to eat?

Well apparently that is the case and Domino’s have created a Tummy Translator app that listens to your tummy rumblings and translates that into a pizza suggestion that will satisfy your food craving.

Neat, eh?
