Back on 7th September 2012, we launched the My Five blog posts.
Almost 10yrs later, I am here to tell you that it is 485 and out. This is going to be the last My Five blog post and, let’s face it, it isn’t even a proper My Five.
I hope that you have enjoyed the My Five posts as much as we have enjoyed writing them. The ambition was always to end the week on a light hearted summary of our digital travels during that week. Part educational, part fun.
So why are we dropping the curtains on such a formidable run?
They say that all good things have to come to an end and, to be honest, it has been proving increasingly difficult to find any good / light hearted news in recent months, let alone digital marketing news worth sharing. What was always a pleasure has started to feel a bit of a burden and we want to quit whilst we are (just about) ahead.
Does this mean that we are not going to be sharing digital marketing news with you any more? Absolutely not. Less is more and we are simply going to focus on fewer, much more newsworthy topics rather than chasing the mythical 5 each week. My One doesn’t really have the same ring to it, but we would rather focus on one thing, and do it justice, than scrape the barrel if it is has been a very quiet week (which seems to have happened more often than not in recent months).
I will confess that this was largely been my call. I suggested it in our Monday morning team meeting and was met with a degree of incredulity, so cemented is My Five in our blog culture. You can actually shoot the messenger in this case as I am the driving force behind the sunsetting of My Five. Blame me if you think this is a bad call.
The stark reality is that whilst many people tell us that they like the My Five posts, they do not attract the readership of our deeper dive posts, where we can really share more insight. Thus, we will be doing more of those.
I hereby sign off with an appropriate homage to our feline friends, who have graced these posts so many times over the years:
Is he/she (no idea!) trying to tell me something?
Have a great weekend folks :-)
