My Five: Five things worth sharing from the last week (or so), brought to you by a different member of the Browser Media team every Friday.

If you haven’t seen it, heard about it or taken part this week, where have you been?! The #nomakeupselfie trend has sparked engagement across the UK with over £1 million in donations for Cancer Research being raised within 24 hours. For those who still don’t know what I’m talking about women are nominated to post a bare-faced photo of themselves on Facebook or Twitter with the aforementioned hashtag and donate to Cancer Research. They can then go on to tag and nominate other friends to take part within the next 24 hours.
The brilliant part? Cancer Research didn’t even create the campaign stating “Thousands of you are posting #cancerawareness #nomakeupselfie pictures and many have asked if the campaign is ours. It’s not but we love that people want to get involved!” Whilst the origins of the campaign have been debated it’s great to see such widespread enthusiasm for for the charity.
But what about the fellas? No need to feel left out as the #makeupselfie has just hit social media streams with guys putting on makeup and nominating others to further boost awareness and donations.

2. Marmite Search Results
After weeks of speculation and wide-spread testing Google has officially launched the new search result design for all, including;
- Increased font size for page titles
- No underlines on links
- Evened out line height
- No shading behind sponsored ads
Met with limited enthusiasm (including myself) the reason for the change as declared by Jon Wiley, Google’s lead design for Google Search, is because it “improves readability and creates an overall cleaner look.” Here’s an example before (right) and after (left) from Search Engine Land;

3. A new £1 coin
Amongst a plethora of changes announced by George Osbourne in the Budget this week it appears the UK can expect a new £1 to enter circulation in 2017. With 3% of £1 coins in circulation speculated to be fake the eventual replacement coin is noted as being the hardest in the world to fake. With 12-sides and a bi-metallic construction the threepenny bit inspired coin is described as a “giant leap into the future”.
