1. Sochi and the Winter Olympics

Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you’ll have heard that the winter olympics started earlier this week. Amid a furore of controversy – what with the cost of the thing and there being absolutely no gays in the whole of Sochi, of course… – it can’t be denied that the actual events are spectacular to watch. 2. Severe weather and flood warnings

This week we have been having some pretty incredible weather, with hurricane-force winds and rising flood waters. It’s a decent reminder that keyword research should be an ongoing process to make sure you get the best out of it.

3. Death of the infographic

Following Matt Cutts’ latest updates slamming article directories (fair enough) and guest blogging (less fair) as link building tactics, here’s another spanner in the works for digital marketeers from Moz co-founder Rand Fishkin, The Diminishing Return of the Infographic.

4. Facebook is 10 years old

Earlier this month Facebook turned 10, with a milestone of 1.23 billion users. Whilst society is split on the benefits and the drawbacks of the site, Mark Zuckerberg’s achievement is enviable. He’s also, as could be predicted, quite a quirky character.

5. Valentines Day

I couldn’t possibly avoid mentioning that it is St. Valentine’s Day today. Whatever you’re doing, just make sure you don’t follow in the footsteps of these guys
