1. Google Primer – marketing lesson app for new startups
A new iPhone app, named Primer, has now been launched by Google, to help teach new startup businesses the fundamentals of marketing.
The website that accompanies the app, www.yourprimer.com, says, “we realized that some of the Google ad-tech products which connect businesses to customers also widen the gap between rookies and marketing pros,”. “We want to fix this.”
So the purpose of the app is to teach entrepreneurs how to promote their business, grow their customers and avoid common mistakes.
2. Apple and Facebook employees being paid to freeze their eggs
Apple, like Facebook, is now offering its female staff an egg-freezing perk, giving women who find it difficult to come to terms with the fact that their ideal childbearing years can conflict with their career, another option.
It is extremely expensive to for women to have their eggs frozen. One round of egg freezing can cost $7,000 – $12,000 (£4400 – £7500), plus storage and drug fees, another $4,000 (£2500) a year. So both Apple and Facebook, according to NBC, are now covering the cost of egg freezing, up to $20,000 (£12600) for their female employees.

3. YouTube announces the launch of Google Preferred
It was announced this week at YouTube’s Brandcast event that the company has launched a way for advertisers to reserve inventory from the top 5% of site’s most popular channels, named Google Preferred.
It was revealed at the event that viewership for YouTube is growing at 50% YoY and it is pulling in over one billion fans a month.
Another interesting stat that was revealed, was that 45% of all UK YouTube content is watched on a mobile device, either phone or tablet.
4. Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife have donated $25m to help fight the ebola virus
Zuckerberg posted on this Facebook profile this week that, “we need to get Ebola under control in the near term so that it doesn’t spread further and become a long-term global health crisis that we end up fighting for decades at large scale, like HIV or polio.”
So in order to help fight the spread of the virus, and get it under control, him and his wife have donated $25 million towards the CDC’s Ebola response.
5. Snapchat photos to be leaked again?
Users who have accessed Snapchat through unsupported third-party apps, may have had their images intercepted and now hackers are threatening to publish thousands of explicit images across the web. The crisis is being referred to as ‘The Snappening’.
Snapchat said its servers “were never breached”, the source of the leak has pointed towards two third-party apps, one of which has been suggested to be the Snapchat client, SnapSave. Watch this space.
